Title : Towards precision farming in Horticulture : as a transformative approach

Abstract:

Precision farming in horticulture has emerged as a transformative approach, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to optimize agricultural practices and enhance productivity. This abstract explores the multifaceted integration of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), Variable Rate Technology (VRT), robotics, and remote sensing in the realm of precision horticulture.GIS and GPS technologies play a pivotal role in providing accurate spatial data, enabling farmers to make informed decisions regarding crop management. The precise mapping of fields allows for targeted interventions, minimizing resource wastage and maximizing efficiency. Variable Rate Technology complements this by facilitating customized application of inputs, such as water, fertilizers, and pesticides, based on the specific needs of different areas within a field. This tailored approach not only improves resource utilization but also contributes to sustainable farming practices. The integration of robotics introduces automation into horticultural processes, reducing labour demands and increasing operational precision. Robotics enable tasks like planting, harvesting, and monitoring to be executed with a level of accuracy that enhances overall crop quality and yield. Remote sensing technologies further elevate precision farming by providing realtime data on crop health, allowing for early detection of diseases, nutrient deficiencies, or other stress factors. This timely information empowers farmers to take prompt corrective actions, preventing potential yield losses remote sensing creates a comprehensive framework that not only addresses the challenges of modern agriculture but also opens avenues for continuous innovation in optimizing crop production.
