Title : Conservation capacity evaluation of sweet potato in western Nigeria Sub-Sahara Africa


A field experiment was conducted during the dry season (November-march) at the Residential East Campus (REC) of the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure to evaluate sweet potato temperature conservative capacity. The treatments were arranged in two way randomized complete block design with a total area of 1472sq meters. Measurements were taken on the growth and yield such as the length of the vine, number of branches, and number of leaves. Data collected were analyzed using ANOVA and the significant means were separated using Duncan multiple differences at a 5% probability level. The result of the experiment indicated that the treatment applied to the sweet potato plant had a significant influence on the yield measured. Land preparation was done mechanically with the aid of a tractor and its implements. Ridges were constructed and spaced 1m apart. The gross plot consisted of thirty-five (35) ridges, 21m long, and the net plot was made up of the inner two ridges. The result from the carbon sequestration test showed that block A has a high percentage of 1.86 carbon deposited into the soil probably as a result of the high decomposition of leaves on the block. This optimum soil moisture content for the field was found to be an average of 7.6 which was appropriate for effective sweet potato yield. Tests the null hypothesis that the error variance of the dependent variable is equal across groups. Levene's Test of Equality of Error Variances irrigated ,cow-dung irrigated, and irrigated NPK was found that based on median and with adjusted for the degree of degree for branches was 689.210, based on the median and with adjusted degree of freedom for length was 974.518, based on the median and with an adjusted degree of freedom was 843.978
